One Mexico, To Go
My grandparents anxiously want to meet our little Chunkachoo monkey, so my parents, my husband and I have arranged for a two-week trip down to Mexico City. All this media frenzy about traveling with a little one has scared us just a tad bit... We've even thought of asking the Dr. if she'd allow us to give him some Benadryl before the flight... though she ok'd it, we decided against it -for now.
Everything I've read has stated that we should arrange travel times according to his nap schedule, but as you may all know, a different setting changes things for a curious baby so we opted for the cheapest and most convenient time -for us. It so happens that it's setup between his naps, so this should be quite interesting!
Given that we have four adults on this trip that this kid can trust, we didn't buy him a seat but chose to travel with him on our laps. My mother, afraid that the flight will be so incredibly turbulent that we'd have to strap the kid down, she bought a vest called the "Baby B'air" which is the weirdest thing ever. It straps down to your seat belt so you can hold him while in flight and he doesn't go bouncing off the ceiling in case of turbulence. Youtube: Baby B'air and watch the instructional video and you'll see what I mean (It's kind of funny).
Not that this is advertising for the darn vest, I haven't even used it yet but it's something I'd never heard of and it's interesting to know it exists; I'll let you know how it works...
Now, I'm nervous about the whole thing: Almost two days of travel.
Itinerary:
Friday: Leaving at 2 from Merced, headed towards Ventura, where we'll stay the night with family.
Saturday: We will be driven to the airport at around 8, needing to be there by 10:30 am, checking in 2.5 hours prior to the flight.
Flight departure: 1 pm
Arrival: 4:40 pm.
Flight duration: 3:41 hrs (Not too bad, it's also my husband's first flight)
Once arrived we will be commuting through Mexico City to Cuernavaca where we will stay for a week.
Crazy itinerary? We will see how it goes.
- Things to pack for Ez:
Diapers,
Formula (Both ready made for the trip and powder)
Warm clothing (It's raining there),
Toiletries,
First aid kit (Motrin, Benadryl etc),
Extra bottles,
Organic food
Organic juice (not sure if they have organics easily available in Mex)
Toys (they recommend you hide the toys you'll be giving him a week prior to the flight so they'll be 'new' to him on the plane) - Play yard (It’s perfect for the trip, plus it has a mesh cover to keep mosquitoes & other insects/arachnoids away)
Car seat (Even if there is no seat belt available, it's safer than none)
Pacifier/Bottle ready for take-off so that it helps out his ears from the pressure.
Ay! Not sure what I'm forgetting, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something!!!
What else does an 8 month old need?
To be continued...
